Knowing your vehicle's weight and carrying capacity is crucial for your safety.
First, find the VIN Plate (Usually under your bonnet or on a door pillar). It should look similar to this:
It has 4 lines of weight on it:
- 3500 kg - This is the Gross Vehicle Weight, the maximum allowable mass of the vehicle including occupants, fuel and payload
- 6500 kg - This is the Gross Train Weight, the combined maximum mass of the vehicle and a trailer
- 1- 2100 kg - This is the maximum axle load for front
- 2- 2400 kg - This is the maximum axle load for the rear axle
How does this relate to my tyres?
in our example above, we should be running tyres as follows:
- 2100kg divided by 2 = 1050kg per side = 110 Load Index
- 2400kg divided by 3 = 1200kg per side = 115 Load Index
