How does the Froli system work?
The FROLIĀ® foundation forms a level air-flow surface on which to rest the mattress or cushions. The springs sit independently on the clipped-together base grid. This independent suspension adds support as the springs flex individually and adapt to your body weight and movements.
The flexing movements and the air space between the springs create an articulating air-flow surface. Your body is cushioned, yet comfortably supported.
This effect is superior to any traditional mattress/box-spring combination. Froli's articulating air-flow surface, combined with a good quality foam mattress, helps prevent any uncomfortable pressure points and you enjoy a relaxing and recuperating sleep, night after night.
What's the difference between the Travel, Star and Zona models?
While all FROLIĀ® Systems are of the same high quality materials and let you customize your comfort there are some design differences that can help determine which model will be best for you:
Design:
The Travel and Star models share a similar spreading design. As pressure is applied to the top of the spring it gives way by spreading out, similar to the way flower petals are opening up.
Our Zona model uses a different, baffle type, linear spring design with two chambers. On top of the baffle spring sits a firm top plate. The baffle spring flexes up and down while the top plate is allowed to pivot as it adapts to body weight and movements.
Height:
Height helps determine the range of up-and-down flex. This, in turn, translates into comfort, a spring with more flexing will adapt better to your body and generally feel softer.
Our Travel model is the lowest in height at 1 3/8" and feels slightly firmer.
The 3/8" additional height of the Star model, totalling1 3/4", achieves more up-and-down flex for a more cushiony feel.
The Zona model is the tallest and also has a linear "baffle-type" spring design - the grey part. Zona can be precisely tuned from soft to very firm. Because of its height, 2 3/8", it is generally more suitable for home beds.
Surface area:
The surface area of the springs vary slightly in size. A smaller surface area will require more springs over any given bed area.
The Travel spring is slightly larger than the Star so it requires fewer springs to cover the same space.
In turn, the larger amount of Star springs needed to cover the same space will give you more points of support, making it more cushiony versus the Travel.
Which model should I choose?
Things to consider:
Odd bed shapes
If yours is an odd-shaped bed, such as a v-berth on a boat or a "kite shaped" bed, maybe a pullman bed with a curved side, not to worry.
The Travel model was designed to accommodate any bed shapes. Springs are available in regular and small sizes that work with angles and curves. Plus, the base element lets you place the springs in a slightly diagonal setting, which works very conform along the edges.
Condensation Issues
There is nothing better than having a permanent air space underneath the mattress for optimal air circulation. The Froli spring foundation provides continuous ventilation to help keep the mattress dry. Choose any Froli model and your moisture problem will soon be a thing of the past.
The Uncomfortable Bed
Good news! Froli springs are designed for comfort. The foundation forms an articulated air-flow surface with each spring adapting to your body shape and movements. With each package you'll receive springs in different firmnesses and the set-up allows for a variety of comfort adjustments.
Note that the variation in spring height means differences in up-and-down flex. So, if you are looking for comfort, choose the taller model, Froli Star of Froli Zona.
How high does the Froli raise my mattress?
Our Travel model has the lowest installed height of 1 3/8" = 33 mm.
The Star model installs a little taller at 1 3/4" = 43 mm.
The Zona model uses baffle type springs and is the tallest with an installed height of 2 3/8" = 60 mm.
What are the Froli Springs made of?
Our springs are made of a thermoplastic elastomer, a hi-tech material with a memory effect that allows for precise flexing under load while returning to its original shape at rest.
This fancy plastic combines the flexibility of rubber with the strength of thermoplastics. Parts can flex in multiple directions, cycle after cycle, long after rubber would break.
Why are there different color springs?
The light blue or light grey springs (depending on version) are softer and we recommended placing these in the shoulder area (rows 3 and 4 from the top). This allows the shoulder to sink in deeper, which helps achieve a better spinal alignment, particularly for side sleepers.
What are the red clips or inserts and do I need them?
They are perfect for adding lumbar support. These red cloverleaf like clips increase the firmness of regular sized, dark blue/ dark grey spring elements. We include a select quantity of clips with all kits (except Ā½ size FROLI Travel Expansion Packs, where they would not fit the spring).
Our Zona system uses red inserts that fit sideways into the baffles of the spring to increase the firmness. one or two can be used per spring.
These clips or inserts are an additional feature to help customize your comfort. You might be perfectly comfortable without adding them, however.
About Mattresses
Can I use the FROLI springs with my existing mattress?
Yes, the FROLI Sleep System forms a support base that is simply placed underneath your existing cushions or mattress, similarly to a box-spring foundation.
I need a new mattress, what do you recommend?
The FROLI works great with a foam mattress with a minimum thickness of 3-4 inches, 5-8 inches are ideal, and even taller mattresses are no problem. Many customers use a 3ā standard foam with 2ā Memory Foam or Latex topper. The Froli also works great with Latex mattresses.
We recommend medium firm foam according to your personal preference. Foam made for seating areas could be too firm. While it might be fine for short naps it will likely be too firm to comfortably adapt to the sleeping body for extended periods of time.
Tip: Pay attention to the density of the foam. This means the weight, not the firmness. Heavier, higher density, foam means more material, less air. It will be more durable and longer lasting.
